Located in east liberty the building was originally built in 1972 as the headquarters for AAA, before becoming home to the investigative branch of Pittsburgh’s Police Bureau. Abandoned for almost a decade, the building fell into a state of disrepair before being purchased by the current owners.
The extensive building renovation for our client, Schoolhouse Electric, was to transform the interior and exterior of the formerly dilapidated Detective Building into a new Showroom, Coffee shop, and Co-working spaces on the upper three floors.
The overall design vision was to uncover the building’s potential, focusing on how best to honor the original building design and allow its existing character to shine through, while breathing new life into it. Standing proudly now as a testament of the City’s revitalization and spirit.
